Aca-awesome…

Second time is not always a charm

I went home to Texas this weekend, for jury duty. While I was there, some of my family and I went to see Pitch Perfect 2. Funny, yes, entertaining, yes, better than the first one? Not in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, the music is good, and the acting is good, I just like the first one better.  I felt that there could have been a little more depth to the story itself; I will, however, probably watch this one multiple times, just not as much as I watch the first one. The spirit is willing…

I’ll get a round to it,eventually!

I'll get a round to it

I’m actually not sure when I started having problems getting motivated to get up and move. Sad to say, but it is quite possible that it began before I was born. I mean, if I was comfortable, and cozy where I was, and I was able to sleep all the time, yeah – I didn’t go voluntarily. It isn’t that I’m lazy. I am actually a hard worker, when I’m doing something for someone else that is; however, if it is something for myself, I procrastinate. I don’t know if it is that I just do not consider myself a priority, or that I just would rather do anything other than workout, or work on my personal projects. Continue reading

These are the moments….

I could not ask for more

I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching lately, with this all important milestone of a birthday rapidly approaching, I’ve been reevaluating goals, lifestyle choices, and what I want to do with my life. I have been trying to let go of plans I made when I was in Junior High, when you have lofty goals, and high expectations for yourself. Hoping that I can come up with some new ones that are more based in reality than wishful thinking. Continue reading

But when she got there, the cupboard was bare…

There is nothing new under the sun

In Ecclesiastes 1:9, Solomon tells us that there is nothing new under the sun. Now, I’m not entirely sure that was meant to be taken exactly the way it reads, because obviously, there are things we know now that they didn’t back then, and we have technology that wasn’t around. However, when it comes to the movies that are coming out, I’m beginning to think this statement fits rather well for describing many of the movies and books that are coming out now days. Let’s go to Luckenbach, Texas…

Is our ‘stuff’ what makes us happy?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Waylon Jennings song, Luckenbach Texas, it is a song about getting back to the basics of love and life after discovering that being ‘successful’ is more stressful than living a simple life.

For some reason, I woke up with that song in my head,  even though I haven’t heard it in years, but the idea is actually something I have really been thinking about a lot lately. We are getting ready to move into a smaller apartment, which means downsizing, aka getting rid of stuff. I have been lamenting over the fact that I am leaving a beautiful kitchen for something that just is not what I am use to. It is small, and has an electric smooth top range that looks something like this:

What I'm moving towards

This stove is the catalyst to me pondering the meaning of success and what truly makes a person happy. Is it stuff? Is it people? Is it achievements? Is it money? Continue reading

When in Rome…

Travel etiquette: Lesson 1

The phrase is actually “When in Rome, do as the Romans do“*, and it originated in the year 387 A.D.. Sadly, the phrase seems to have lost its meaning over the centuries. You see it was originally meant to be taken as a lesson in how to be polite when you travel, whereas now, more often than not, I see it used as justification for doing what everyone else is doing. Today, however, I would like to think of it as it was originally meant. It’s like riding a bike…

Getting Active

I’m fairly certain that the person who originally made that statement, had not gone 25 plus years without riding a bike; and even if they had, they probably didn’t go from having ridden a regular, everyday kind of bike, to riding one that has brakes and gears!

On Mother’s Day, my husband and I decided to rent bicycles and go for a bike ride. We are attempting to add more movement into our lives, and we figured this would be a really good way to do it. Unfortunately, I haven’t ridden a bike in years, I cannot even remember riding one since I started having children and my youngest is nearly 31. So, it is very possible that I have not ridden a bike, that wasn’t stationary, since I was 13. We won’t talk about how long ago that was, I’ll just leave it at that was a long time ago. Not to mention, I’ve never ridden a 10-speed before, so this was a totally new experience for me!

My patient husband explained the deal with the brakes, and about the gears (there are only 3 on these, so not too complicated). I did a few practice ‘runs’ up and down the sidewalk, and then we were off. I admit it, I wobbled a few times, and changing gears was definitely odd, but I got the hang of it.  Continue reading

Why?

Why a blog without a theme?

I already have two blogs that are book related, and I’ve tried to create other blogs related to other various topics, e.g. food, and they just do not work for me.  I tend to want to write about what is on my mind at the moment, and I honestly just cannot make myself write about a specific topic, because that is what my blog is for. Even though I am not really into astrology, but I do believe there are traits that people born during a specific time frame, share. I am a Gemini, and for the most part, the description fits me rather well. I have a few things I would argue with, such as I’m not really devious or superficial, often; I am, however, impulsive and indecisive, which makes this type of blog perfect for me!

Why the title ‘There Were Words…”?

Unfortunately, that is not an easy answer – it is one of those family jokes that you really had to be there to understand the humor behind it. Let us just say that it just really fits.
