Ignorance is bliss…

Sometimes knowledge can be limiting

As I’ve mentioned, I just celebrated the big 5-0. The sky didn’t fall, I’m still breathing, and I actually didn’t have a nervous breakdown. Instead, I had an amazing 3 day celebration, family, food, and fun – it could not have been more perfect. Continue reading

Love is thicker than water…

We are family

I was adopted at birth, and raised as an only child, therefore, I do not come from a large family, but a small, close-knit one.  I’ve known I was adopted for as long as I can remember, so for me, family never meant you had to have the same ‘blood‘. I assume that is the reason why I have always preferred having a few deep yet meaningful relationships over having a ton of ‘friends’. Continue reading

It has begun…

You don’t get older, you get better

Birthday Week officially begins today; tomorrow starts a month long celebration (there are tons of June birthdays in our group). Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of this week, are all days I celebrate the births of people I know and love. Friday is not only the birthday of one of my dear friends, it is mine as well. In the space where I can breathe…

There is magic in music

For me there are two things that can pull up memories like nothing else, splitting headache smells and music. I have found that smells are often random, sometimes a certain smell will remind me of something specific, and then other times it is just simply a smell. Whereas music seems to have magical powers; it can transform my moods, or transport me to another time and place. It seems to somehow seal a moment in my memory as if it were cement. Sadly, not all of its magic powers are beneficial, because it can also break my heart, hurt my ears, or even give me a splitting headache. Continue reading

No Tech Tuesdays…

There was a time, a few years ago, where I practiced no tech Tuesdays. I had my phone, but the only thing I could use it for was phone calls, and replying to text messages. I did not play games, I did not get on Facebook or Instagram. This gave me a time to focus strictly on other mundane things, such as reading, writing, spending time in the great outdoors. It was nice, and I did it for several months, but somehow I got away from it. I’ve been thinking about bringing it back but choosing either a different day or possibly changing the rules. Continue reading

Ooh shiny…

Squirrel!

emotionwheelI was diagnosed with ADHD the year I turned 40. Now, this is not the worst news I’ve ever received, but it was one that brought on a spectrum of emotions. Two of which were relief, and anger. I was relieved, because it really explained a lot about some of the issues I’ve had for as long as I can remember. However, there was anger, from years of hearing that I was being rude because I wasn’t paying attention, or the countless number of times I got in trouble for wiggling in my seat, or ‘zoning out’ during a conversation. I eventually worked through the emotions, and learned to embraced this part of me. Joy comes in the morning…

Sometimes looking back can make you appreciate the present

I have begun the process of sorting through things in preparation for our upcoming move. This is always difficult for me, because even though I’m not a ‘hoarder‘, there are things I like to hold on to because you just never know when you are going to need something. Continue reading

Sorry not sorry…

Entitlement issues

I do not know exactly how or when this happened, but it seems to me that over the last several years, I’ve been noticing more and more that some people have begun to think that they are owed something. It is as if they believe that simply because they want something,  they should be able to have it. I am unsure if it is human nature, learned behavior, or if it is peer pressure. I know I dealt with this, to some degree, with my own daughters. I used it as an opportunity for learning. I explained to them over, and over again a few important facts about life: Continue reading

All or nothing…

Teaching an ‘Old Dog’ a new trick

old dog new trick

Many times words start out meaning one thing, and then over time, because people have started using them incorrectly, and it catches on – on purpose or not, the meanings either change, or the word has multiple definitions. For example, the word diet. Originally, it simply referred to what was regularly eaten, it had nothing to do with trying to lose weight, which is the definition most people think of when you say this four-letter word. Continue reading
